# Checkmate Genesis

If Anichess was born of gods, *Checkmate Genesis* is the story of mortals. A tale where chess meets rebellion, and the board becomes a battleground for meaning.

Set in a fractured Mystra long after the Orbs fell, *Checkmate Genesis* follows the arrival of two humans from Earth:

Iris, a 19-year-old Grandmaster turned reluctant icon. Fame made her a star. Mystra made her a believer. She spreads chess like gospel, reigniting her own passion in the process.

Kai, a quiet genius and fast-food worker. Brilliant but overlooked, he finds purpose training warriors in Mystra's Divine Temple. But his hunger for meaning leads him into dangerous alliances.

In their orbit is Scherif, the first teacher of Mystra. Fiercely loyal to Iris, suspicious of Kai. And Pilgrim, her greatest student turned adversary. Seduced by chaos. Recruited by the Cult of Anarchy.

At the center of that cult is Anatoli, the Fallen Grandmaster. Resurrected by Chance, driven by madness. Once a pariah on Earth, now a prophet of disruption.

Checkmate Genesis tells what happens when chess decides fate and mortals carry the cost.

Notably, it even folds the real into the myth. The characters of Ronggo and his son Reybara appear within the tale, honoring two of Anichess' earliest supporters.
